Valladolid leaves relegation at the expense of Athletic’s European dream

Draw at San Mamés in a match with two clearly different sides. Athletic played more and better than Valladolid until the break, but the pucelanos, who needed to score in Bilbao to get out of relegation, were able to recover until they equalized the home’s initial advantage on two occasions.. The European dream of the lions deflates almost definitively as that of the permanence of the albiviolets swells.

Morcillo opened the scoring before the first quarter of an hour was up. Orellana, headed out of a corner, signed the first draw with 20 minutes to go. Until then Masip had supported his team with stops of merit that frustrated the second goal from Bilbao.

So much so that it came in a counter culminated by Raúl García a quarter of an hour from the conclusion. Weismann, however, arrived in time to sign the equalizer and seal the point that allows Valladolid to leave the descent momentarily. In Athletic, by the way, Nico Williams, Iñaki’s little brother, made his debut as a lion. Both agreed on the ground.

Marcelino made two changes regarding the starting eleven that he presented on Sunday against Atlético Madrid. De Marcos entered the right side in place of the injured Capa and Unai López in the double pivot for the sanctioned Winner. Sancet and Villalibre repeated upstairs with Iñaki Williams and Raúl García on the bench.

Sergio, for its part, made four variations in the initial team that came from drawing with Cádiz. Masip
occupied the goal instead of Roberto,
Janko
Y
Nacho
they exercised in the wings instead of Luis Pérez and Olaza and Fede embedded himself in the media instead of Michel. Valladolid, despite previous speculation, played in Bilbao with a defense of four.

The crash began at full speed. Both contenders jumped onto the pitch wanting to get ahead on the scoreboard as soon as possible. Morcillo was the first to hit the target with a powerful left foot from outside the area in the 14th minute. A quarter of an hour later he was about to repeat himself, but this time Masip did hit a good hand.

The lions were comfortable against a rival without presence or danger at the offensive level. The pucelanos, however, began to unsettle Unai Simón’s domain as the break drew near. Weismann even scored a goal from a corner, which was disallowed for offside at the request of the linesman first and the VAR later.

Valladolid, with everything lost, took a step forward after halftime. Óscar Plano soon put Unai Simón in trouble. Berenguer gave the local reply immediately afterwards, but Marcos André immediately insisted. Villalibre first and Iñigo Martínez later had the clearest chances to sign the second, but Masip responded effectively.

Marcelino He then opted to hit Nico Williams, debutant, Raúl García and Ibai. Sergio pulled at the same time Roque Mesa and Míchel. Valladolid took little time to draw, since Orellana, with a head, beat Unai Simón with a head in the absence of 20 minutes for the conclusion. Vesga and Iñaki Williams entered next.

The albiviolets went in search of a second and found a Against the Athletic book started by Ibai, continued by Iñaki Williams and culminated by Raúl García. Sergio, with everything lost, also made a triple change. Olivas, Sergi Guardiola and Hervías appeared in search of leveling the contest, a goal that Weissman achieved five minutes from the end.
